In an effort to respond to the challenges of big-city pollution and reduce carbon emissions, eMag, together with Sameday, launched the Green Delivery Service, through which packages will be delivered with 100% electric cars, a first for the Romanian market.

In the first phase, the new service will be active in Bucharest and Ilfov county but will be expanded in the easybox network in the following months.

“We are preoccupied by what we leave behind us, and through this investment we come in support of our clients who are interested in a healthy environment. We are continuing our efforts to build a responsible business model. Together with Sameday, we intend to reach a number of 70 100% electric cars in the next 6 months, and to progressively reduce our carbon footprint.” Says Radu Ilinof, Customer Experience Director at eMag.

At first, eMag Green Delivery will include 6 Nissan E-NV200 cars, each with a capacity of 200 packages and a 200-300 km autonomy. The charging stations of the electric cars are powered by 100% green energy. But this is not eMag’s first initiative for a sustainable business.

Through the easybox network, eMag contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions, thanks to the low number of drives a car has to make in order to fulfill an order. Instead of 50 trips needed to deliver 50 parcels, easybox delivery will require just one ride. According to several studies conducted, picking up a package through easybox reduces carbon emissions by at least 20,5%, compared to traditional delivery means. Moreover, if each parcel delivered by a courier company produces 300 grams of carbon emissions, a parcel delivered through easybox will create only 14 grams of carbon emissions. Also, fuel consumption is greatly reduced through the easybox locker system, 0.01 liters per parcel, while classic courier delivery burns around 0.23 liters for each parcel.

At the moment, the easybox network has over 300 lockers in Bucharest and counties like Arad, Argeș, Bacău, Brașov, Cluj, Contanța, Galați, Iași, Maramureș, Oradea, Prahova, Timiș, Vâlcea. At the same time, eMag’s warehouses in Joița și Chitila are 100% powered by green energy, starting this year.
