Black Friday 2014 kicks off: Everything you need to know

Romanian retailers have adapted the Black Friday discount event to suit their own interests. It may kick-off on November 21, but it may last up to three weeks.

The Black Friday event already started today and from the very first few hours, online retailer eMag is reporting some interesting results:

– In the first 4 minutes, shoppers bought 100 products per second

– eMag sold fuel (gasoline and diesel fuel) in a surprise stunt this year and in the first 2 hours of Black Friday had already sold 1,200 fuel fouchers worth RON 240,000

– 50,000 products sold iun the first half hour

– 20 percent of products placed on sale already gone in first hour.

Altex was the first retailer to initiate Black Friday in Romania this year, after introducing special discounts and offers on November 13, with a scheduled end for the promo-campaign on November 23. Altex is offering electrical appliances with discounts up to 70 percent.

Cash&Carry type stores are also joining the Black Friday event this year. This is the fourth edition of the marketing phenomenon in Romania, after Flanco and eMag initiated the trend in 2011.
