On Sunday, June 10, 173 Uber rides and deliveries were started simultaneously at 15:12, Romania’s time, and led to the reaching of the 10 billion Uber journeys worldwide.

The 173 rides took place in 93 cities, from 21 countries on 5 continents, and one of them was in Bucharest. The ride was made with a Dacia Logan car through the UberX service.

The 14-kilometer journey started somewhere in Prelungirea Ghencea, had Berceni as a destination and had a tariff of RON 25.33.

The first-ever Uber happened in 2010, and the threshold of 10 billion was reached 8 years and 10 days later. More than half of all rides so far have taken place over the past 13 months.

The countries that helped Uber reach the 10 billion ride threshold are: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Egypt, France, India, Jordan, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Ukraine, the United Kingdom and the USA.

Uber’s story started in 2010 in the United States to solve the problem of ordering a ride at the touch of a button.

“We have already had many memorable moments: people who found their better half in an Uber, small fortunes were lost and recovered, and even babies came into the world during a ride. It’s true, there have been times when we did not live up to expectations, but that helps us learn and better serve our passengers, partner drivers and cities for the next 10 billion races,” Uber’s officials stated.
