  • Romania lost 1.9 million inhabitants in nine years

Romania’s stable population stands at around 20.1 million inhabitants, down 1.5 million from the 2002 census, according to the final results of the 2011 census. Romania population shrank 13.3 percent from 1990.

Around 727,500 Romanians are living abroad. Tudorel Andrei, president of the National Statistics Institute, said this figure represented only 30 percent of the real number of Romanians that left the country

 FINANCE

  • Romania may close new stand-by agreement with IMF

PM Ponta will propose the closing of a new precautionary loan with the IMF, after the country completed a EUR 5 billion deal with the IMF/EU, earlier this month. The government hasn’t used any of the allotted funds. The objectives of the new agreement will be negotiated after the official visit of Christine Lagard, the IMF’s managing director. She is due in Bucharest later this month.
