In 2017, eMAG Foundation was awarded in this category after enrolling almost 3,500 children in performance training centers located in 12 cities.

“We launched this program almost five years ago and at that moment we just wanted to support the national teams for the international olympiads. But working with these children and with their teachers, we realized that in Romania, there is still a strong community of valuable teachers, on one side, and very good children on the other side,” said Tudor Vlad, president of eMAG Foundation, during last year’s gala.

During 2016-2017, “Hai la Olimpiada!”, the program initiated by eMAG in 2012, recorded investments of RON 1 million in the training of students.

At the same time, the program supported the preparation of Romanian students who won a gold medal and three silver medals at the International Olympiad of Physics and Math this year and the Asian Olympiad of Physics, where the students won a gold medal and two silver medals.

More about the category

This year, for the first time, the Community Development category awards initiatives of companies, on the one hand and NGOs, on the other hand.

It recognizes the efforts made by Romanian companies or foreign companies doing business locally, as well as NGOs, that demonstrated commitment to implementing medium and long term programs/projects that aim to support the community they operate in. This category rewards involvement in community development programs with high impact on the society.

How are the nominees judged?

The jury takes into account the following criteria before making a decision:

Proven social impact of the business / initiative (community impact)

Developing long term programs or projects for the local communities (long term commitment to the local community)

The initiatives coming from companies meet a real need of the community (e.g. education, social intervention, health, environment, technology)

Being transparent to the local community by publishing annual sustainability reports (GRI 4)
