British American Tobacco will invest EUR 60 million in the retechnologization of the Ploiesti factory to build a new production hall and move at the site a part of the production work currently carried out in Germany and Bulgaria.
British American Tobacco announced in 2016 that it will invest around EUR 21 million annually for a period of 5 years in developing its Ploiesti factory. However, the producer decided to triple this year’s investments, due to the gradual closing down of its Germany factory, the take over of Bulgartabac in Bulgaria, as well as the optimization of production of BAT factories in Western Europe.
The development of the Ploiesti factory will create 120 new jobs, out of which, 90 were already occupied. Currently, the production unit in Ploiesti has 700 employees and 150 contractors. Investments will also reflect in volumes, which are expected to increase by 30 percent.
“We want to continue to invest in Romania and hope that the Romanian government will ensure the legal and fiscal predictability and the political stability needed. We stress once again that one of the prerequisites of a sustainable economic growth is the continuous dialogue between authorities and the business environment,” Gemma Webb, British American Tobacco Romania said.
The Ploiesti factory is the Group’s second in Europe in terms of importance.
