Mastercard introduces the free shopping insurance, automatically offered to all Mastercard Standard credit cardholders in Romania

Mastercard is launching a new benefit for Mastercard Standard credit cardholders issued in Romania – the free insurance for online and in-store purchases. The insurance provides protection in situations where goods purchased with an eligible Mastercard card become unusable due to theft, accidental damage, manufacturing defects or other unforeseen circumstances, without the need for prior enrollment.

“Whether we’re talking about online or in-store purchases, we all want a stress or worry-free shopping experience so we can make better informed decisions and enjoy every step of the process. When we feel confident, we can focus more on the goods themselves and finding products or services that meet our needs and desires. With the launch of free insurance, we aim to offer credit card holders, this time in the standard segment, not only a safe and excellent payment experience, but also a shield against unforeseen events that can compromise their purchases. How does the insurance work?

The free online and in-store shopping insurance for Mastercard Standard credit cardholders is automatically activated without the need for prior enrolment. For goods to be insured, they must be purchased using an eligible Mastercard.

Events covered by the insurance include damage to purchased goods (whether bought online or in shops), theft or malfunction due to accidental damage to the insured goods delivered. In the event of such an event, the insurer will repair or replace the item, or refund the amount with which it was purchased.

To file a claim, Mastercard Standard credit card holders can call 0800400560 and file a claim within 30 days of the date of purchase.

Once the insurer receives all the supporting documents, the cardholder will receive a reply within 5 working days, and will then have a repaired or replaced product, or its value refunded to the card with which payment was made.

Purchase insurance covers purchases made in physical stores worldwide and online purchases made on websites registered in Romania, the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, Norway and Switzerland.
