Belgian tourist bus crashes in Transylvania

A bus carrying 25 Belgian tourists skidded off a road in Romania’s Transylvania region. The bus was heading towards the town of Rasnov, after leaving from Poiana Brasov.  Three of the tourists were injured seriously, including one in a coma, according to AP.

Police spokesman Liviu Naghi said the Romanian driver lost control Sunday and the bus veered off the road, careering into a ditch. Belgium’s foreign ministry said all 26 tourists were injured, with one person transported to a regional hospital in a coma and two others hospitalized with serious injuries.

“The bus crashed into a tree and all the pasengers were hurt. Three of the victims are in a serious state, while the rest suffered only minor injuries. One of the them suffered cranial trauma, along with the loss of consciousness, and will be carried to Targu-Mures for further investigation”, according to leutenant Ciprian Sfreja, spokespoerson for ISU Brasov.

According to preliminary investigation, the bus driver (67 years old) lost control of the vehicle because of a technical glitch.
