Nestlé Romania launches the Honey Forest, bringing together all reforesting and biodiversity projects and programs in Romania, and plants 20,000 acacia trees in Mârșa, Giurgiu County together with the Mai Mult Verde Association. Carried out under the umbrella of the sustainability pillar “Nestlé for a Waste Free World”, this project complements the greening actions of 2019, the planting of acacia and spruce trees in 2020 and 2021. The acacia trees are planted on 4 hectares with the aim to will bring pollinators to the area and help prevent soil degradation.

The company’s ambition towards sustainable development is to reach net-zero emissions globally by 2050, through the transition to 100% renewable energy, through the development of alternative packaging, through innovation in recipes and, finally, through the concrete involvement in activities that increase biodiversity and reduce the amount of carbon dioxide through tree plantings. Nestlé is committed to planting 20 million trees a year globally.

Biodiversity and health are priority areas for us, which is why I am very pleased with the launch of the Nestlé Honey Forest. Through it we bring together all our afforestation projects, education and awareness campaigns in schools and to the general public, initiatives that map and promote biodiversity in Romania. We strongly believe in the role of bees in the local ecosystem and focus our efforts on helping them, supporting local communities of beekeepers, while contributing to the restoration of degraded soils and areas. In Romania, we planted 55,000 trees between 2019 and 2021 together with the Cozia National Park, and this year we are planting 20,000 acacia trees with the help of the Mai Mult Verde Association.”, says Irina SIMINENCO, Corporate Affairs Manager Nestlé România.

The action in Mârșa was attended by 200 people, Nestlé employees and partners together with Mai Mult Verde volunteers, who answered our call to come and plant together for a cleaner and greener Romania.

Through this project, Nestlé Romania also completes the “A Greener Future” campaign, carried out at national level between May 12th and June 30th, which at that time aimed to offer consumers products with tradition together with the opportunity to win sustainable prizes that do good to society, but especially to the environment.  For every entry in the promotional campaign, Nestlé now plants one acacia tree in the Nestlé Honey Forest.

Nestlé addresses the issue of carbon dioxide emissions, in all the communities where it operates all over the world, and bases its sustainable development strategy on several concrete actions, such as: the use of ingredients from sustainable sources, innovations in packaging, a lower impact on the environment through upgrading the car fleet, the move to neutral brands in terms of carbon footprint, the transformation of the product portfolio, the use of renewable energy in the production process, for the reduction of the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and, last but not least, awareness campaigns.
