Somfy Romania: turnover growing by 30%, above expectations, in 2020

Somfy Romania, a leader in providing automated controlling systems for shading and access to homes and commercial buildings, as well as a key player for smart home solutions, announces a turnover of 2.8 million euros, an increase by 30% compared to the previous financial year. The positive results, above the initial estimates, are due to the accelerated growth of sales in the second half of the year for the main product categories in the portfolio: motorised and automated systems for roller blinds, curtains and awnings.

Globally, Somfy Group’s sales reached 1,257.1 billion euros in 2020, an increase of 6.1% compared to the previous year. Among the areas with an important contribution to this performance is also Eastern Europe, with the highest percentage increase.

“The increasing sales in the second half of 2020 and reducing costs in response to the health crisis have led to a significant increase in operating income for the financial year just ended, both locally and internationally. The growth trend was distributed throughout the semester, which confirms the central and complex role that the house has acquired in everyone’s life. For Somfy Romania, the impact was observed in the interest for indoor and outdoor shading systems, which bring adequate comfort for the multitude of activities carried out in the same space, as well as for smart-home solutions for a centralised home, so to offer lower energy consumption”, said Vlad Rovo, Country Manager of Somfy Romania and Moldova.

Growing concern of Romanians for an updated house and lifestyle with smart shading products

According to internal analyses, Romanians are turning their attention and requirements more and more to reliable products, from the premium segment, which can be integrated and interconnected in the smart home universe, a fact that also doubles the sales of Somfy smart-home systems.

“In the context of spending more time indoors, people began to realise more the relevance and importance of choosing automation and motorised systems to simplify lifestyle, to optimise costs, for a thermal comfort, visual and acoustic, and time saving brought by automating repetitive actions. Therefore, investments in a smart home become necessary for the new needs and the present reality “, adds Vlad Rovo.

After Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and IFTTT, from December 1, 2020, Somfy connected solutions have also become compatible with the Apple Home Kit and, therefore, with the main voice control platforms and services on the smart home market.

In 2020, Somfy expanded globally, including in Romania, the partnership with three representative companies in complementary industries: Assa Abloy, Danfoss and Schneider Electric, within the Connectivity Ecosystem project, in order to offer efficient, easy to integrate solutions that they work flawlessly together and take connectivity to the next level.

In an expanding digital world, these partnerships provide real added value to installers and system integrators, developers, and key benefits to homeowners in terms of energy efficiency, comfort, safety and ease of use.

Financial forecasts, 15 years anniversary in Romania and a revolutionary new product for the smart home market in 2021

This year, Somfy Romania celebrates 15 years of activity locally and will launch on the Romanian market, in the second part of the year, a revolutionary new product for this field of activity. It will complete the current portfolio of connected home solutions.

In terms of financial forecasts, the local subsidiary estimates a growth rate comparable to that estimated for 2020. There will be factors that will drive demand for smart shading systems during the year: the nZEB concept for new buildings, the “Energy Efficient House” renovation program”, boosting energy efficiency measures, including windows and shutters, at European level, which will generate export opportunities in these countries. In addition, raising awareness of the impact on the environment will generate increased attention to the principles of sustainability among professionals and end consumers.

Responsibility for environmental protection is a principle that governs Somfy’s business globally and locally, so the company is working to create sustainable, eco-friendly products for energy-efficient homes. Currently, over 50% of Somfy products sold globally are ecologically designed, and in Romania this share is over 70%.

Moreover, the company is an active member locally in several organisations and associations for promoting energy efficiency in buildings and homes, such as ROENEF Association, RoGBC (Romania Green Building Council), KNX Romania, thus contributing to the promotion of these practices locally.
