Leroy Merlin, a retailer specialising in construction, decoration and gardening, has completed the refurbishment of its first store on the local market, in the Colosseum Shopping Park in Bucharest. The refurbishment lasted almost 1 year and involved a total investment of EUR 3.5 million.

According to company representatives, the Leroy Merlin Colosseum remodel has as strategic objectives both to increase the store’s customer base by approximately 10-15% by 2024 and to increase turnover by approximately 15-20%, driven by online and telephone orders. To support this growth, Leroy Merlin has hired additional staff and invested in developing the skills and competencies of employees so that the store can adapt to new market requirements. At the same time, this investment is aimed at improving the customer experience, as well as simplifying access to home and garden products.

Thus, the departments were grouped into several categories, such as project, dedicated to kitchen and plumbing, deco and technical, with tools and electrical solutions, and garden. A separate entrance has also been created to the technical area, dedicated to the tradesmen and professionals segment, and the DRIVE IN area still allows access by car to purchase building materials.

At the same time, the product range has been improved and customers now have access to a more diverse offer to renovate, build and decorate their home and outdoor spaces – garden or balcony. So, the sanitaryware, tiles and tiling departments, as well as the decoration, tiling and storage, paint, carpentry and garden departments have been expanded to include more product variants, aligned with customer needs and sustainability requirements. Customers will benefit from more complete designs dedicated to kitchen and bathroom furniture, as well as a customised ordering service, which allows customers to order PVC windows and balcony doors in the desired sizes and colours. These solutions cover all needs, from purchasing to installation.

In addition, the store also offers a collection service for a wide selection of heavy products such as tiles, floor tiles, flooring, kitchen and sanitary ware. Thus, once the desired products have been selected, they will be transported by Leroy Merlin employees directly to the customer’s car.

With the new format, the total sales area of the store, both inside and outside, is now around 15,000 square metres. The DRIVE IN area measures 4,000 square metres, with a 2,000 square metre extension to the supply side. In addition, Leroy Merlin Colosseum offers 600 parking spaces for easy and convenient customer access.

The refurbishment of the store in the Colosseum Commercial Park was the first of its kind undertaken in Romania by the French retailer, and throughout the entire period of the works, the store was open to the public, allowing customers to access the full range of Leroy Merlin products and services.

“This refurbishment is an important step in strengthening our position in the local DIY market. We are committed to becoming the preferred DIY destination for Bucharest residents, offering high quality products and services as well as inspirational shopping experiences. In the coming years, we are focused on strengthening the Leroy Merlin brand and improving the lives and homes of Romanians through quality, sustainable products at low prices. Leroy Merlin Colosseum is becoming more than a DIY store – it is becoming a trusted partner for happy home design,” said Mathieu Bauduin, CEO Leroy Merlin Romania.

The store is located in the Colosseum Commercial Park, at 284-286 Șoseaua Chitilei and will continue to operate from Monday to Saturday between 07:00-21:00 and on Sundays between 08:00 and 20:00. From 6 November, according to the winter schedule, the shop will be open every Sunday from 09:00 until 19:00 in the evening.
