Carrefour Romania will open a 9,700 sqm hypermarket in Bucharest in Q3 2013, the French retailer has announced. Carrefour already runs 8 hypermarkets in the capital.

The hypermarket will be located on the grounds of a future shopping center developed by New Europe Property Investments (NEPI)  on the former Vulcan industrial platform. Work on the project will start after obtaining the final building permits, said Carrefour representatives.

The partnership between Carrefour and NEPI has begun in 2011 and the two companies are presently developing a shopping mall in Ploiesti which will be opened this month.

Carrefour runs locally 24 hypermarkets, 59 supermarkets and 8 proximity stores.
