LIFE Group: Romanians spend, on average, about 1,000 lei annually on dental treatment. Bucharest, Sibiu and Brasov, the cities with the most patients

Romanians spend an average of LEI 1,000 per year on the treatment of dental problems, and the main reasons for which they cross the threshold of dental clinics are both the treatment of gingivitis, dental caries, implantology, but also aesthetics or oral hygiene, according to data provided by the LIFE Group, which includes LIFE Dental Spa, one of the most dynamic dental clinic chains in Romania, and the Vivo Dental brand, with a total of 12 locations across the country, which uses laser technology in the prevention and treatment of dental problems.

However, the amount is 20% lower than a year ago, mainly due to inflation, higher bank interest rates and a less favourable general economic climate.

LIFE Group estimates that no less than 50,000 patients will cross the threshold of the 11 LIFE Dental Spa clinics across the country and one Vivo Dental in Bucharest, the concept of proximity clinics, this year, and most of the patients request dental laser caries treatment, gingivitis treatment protocol – a disease that, if not treated in time, can lead to periodontitis (tooth loss), as well as oral hygiene – a key element to protect us from problems that can occur to our teeth.

Our patients have chosen LIFE Group’s services mainly for the treatment of periodontitis and gingivitis, where we use a unique protocol in Romania, called BIOPARO, based on dental laser. This is also our main differentiator in the local market, as LIFE Dental Spa is the largest chain of dental clinics in the country using laser technology. What’s more, it is the only laser technology used for the painless treatment of cavities and other essential procedures. Laser treatments cost 20-30% more than traditional dental procedures, but if we look at and weigh the advantages that this technology offers, we will look at this cost differently, and the patients who have crossed our threshold are already loyal customers who never want to hear about the old technology, the well-known drill – which has frightened so many Romanians over the years, Ștefan Obreja, CEO of LIFE Group stated.

Bucharest, Sibiu and Brasov – the cities with the highest number of patients

Bucharest, Sibiu and Brasov are the cities with the most patients for dental treatment in 2023, followed by Cluj and Iasi, with the average voucher paid by LIFE Group patients being around LEI1,000.

LIFE Dental Spa and Vivo Dental clinics are located in Bucharest, Iasi, Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, Oradea, Brasov, Arad, Pitesti and Constanta.

According to a study carried out by LIFE Dental Spa, at least 90% of the Romanians who crossed the threshold of the clinics this year suffer from dental problems, both chronic and acute, which can affect success at a personal or professional level, because a problem with the teeth can lead to stigmatisation, to a lack of self-confidence that manifests itself unconsciously in our psyche and affects our natural path through life.

Eight out of ten Romanians suffer from gingivitis, an early stage of periodontal disease, which is a superficial inflammation of the gums caused by bacteria in the oral cavity. Left untreated, gingivitis can progress to periodontitis, an inflammation of the periodontium, the tissue that supports and anchors the teeth to the jawbone, which can eventually lead to tooth loss.

The bone of the teeth recedes, so the bacteria attack it and the teeth end up falling out of the arches. Paradontosis is literally gum disease that leaves you without teeth. Many dentists claim there is no cure – they tell patients there is nothing they can do. There are unique protocols that we have and use successfully at LIFE Dental Spa – there are certain treatments based on dental lasers that can stop gum problems if detected earlyCristina Obreja M.D. said, a dentist certified in the use of laser technologies and co-founder of LIFE Dental Spa.

Poor oral hygiene is the main cause of periodontitis, and plaque and tartar are directly responsible for the development of periodontal disease.

Daily brushing, both morning and evening, removes plaque. If we have unhealthy habits and do not use the correct brushing technique, we can develop tartar, which cannot be removed by simple brushing and requires the intervention of the dentist, who removes these deposits using ultrasound scaling. There are also situations in which we are predisposed to developing gingivitis, either genetically or due to external factors (accidents, malocclusion), so it is important to visit the dentist regularly to keep any risk under control, Cristina Obreja M.D. added.

EUR 500 voucher and reimbursement of transport costs for Romanians in the diaspora who come home for the holidays and cross the threshold of LIFE Group clinics

About 15% of Romanians who return to the country during the winter holidays visit a dental clinic at least once for treatment or a simple specialist consultation, according to LIFE Group data, because the prices of dental services in Romania are up to 75% cheaper than in the West and the quality of medical care is at a very high level, which has led to a continuous increase in interest in medical tourism from year to year.

Every year, thousands of patients from Spain, Italy, Germany, Great Britain and even the USA, where dental treatment is more than 4 times more expensive than in Romania, come to LIFE Dental Spa clinics during the holidays.

This is also the reason why, during the month of December, in the 12 clinics of the LIFE Group, all patients arriving in the country from the diaspora around the holidays will receive a voucher worth 500 euros for procedures and treatments costing more than 5,000 euros, as well as a reimbursement of transport costs up to 250 euros.

For the patients in the country, the LIFE Group has introduced new customer subscriptions with prices starting from 20 lei per month (for payment on an annual basis):

The reSTART subscription includes unlimited free consultations, a 25% discount on laser teeth whitening and a 5% discount on all other procedures;
The Family subscription includes an unlimited number of free consultations for the whole family, a free dental hygiene treatment for the entire family and discount packages of up to 35%;
Premium subscription includes unlimited consultations and free dental hygiene for the whole family and discount packages of up to 55%.
