Continental Sibiu – 20 Years of Achivements, Continous Growth and Community Involvement

Continental reaches this year its 20th anniversary in Sibiu. From 1 to 70 production lines, from 500 thousands units to a production volume of over 40 million electronics control units per year and 1 billion sales, from 1 to 3 multifloored R&D buildings, are just some of the key milestones highlighted in the anniversary event took place at Continental’s site in the presence of local authorities, business partners, educational institutes, global and local Continental leaders.

New Investments

Today the company organized the groundbreaking ceremony of a new production module – the 7^th one, with a planned investment of more than EUR 45 million. Part of the investment will be covered with state funds allocated for stimulating investments with major impact on the Romanian economy.

Module 7, being now in the construction phase, will cover an area of approx. 15,000 m². Out of this surface, 6,500 m² are allocated to the production zone and the rest of the space is dedicated to logistics, office area, and other amenities required, all fully equipped. The extension comes also with a new space for the location’s canteen. The finalization of the new production module is planned for the end of next year. Start of Production spring 2026.

Within the new module, engineers, technicians, and operators, will work together on the production of vehicle architecture and networking systems and other mobility solutions for key automotive customers around the world, all in a modern and LEED Golds sustainable factory, with latest technologies and smart processes of Industry 4.0.

A city for the city – 20 Years, 20 Good Deeds

Strong partnerships play an essential role at Continental Sibiu. In terms of universities, the company is collaborating with 7 universities across the country. Among which 2 strategic partnerships with Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu and the University of Craiova, but also a long-lasting collaboration with Universities of Alba Iulia, Mures, Cluj, Pitesti. Furthermore, with over 150 pupils currently studying in the Continental Classes, within “Independența” Technological High School, the Energetic Technical College, “Avram Iancu” Technological High School, they continue the success story of dual education in Sibiu.

Community involvement has always been a priority for the company: “At Continental Sibiu, we many times feel that we are a city within a city, but even more important a city for the city, being there at the most important events in town or coming up with new projects. With the occasion of our 20 years anniversary, we are also launching a program by which we trying to give back to the community everything we received as support in the last years. The CSR program is called “20 Years, 20 Good Deeds” and comprises 20 social, environmental, health or cultural initiatives by which we support local NGOs, institutions, and the overall community we are part of.” says Lăcrămioara Dărăban, Head of Human Relations at Continental Sibiu.

20 years Career Journeys

Together with the company, there are also many employees celebrating 20 years of career at Continental Sibiu and who have been part of the location’s journey from the very beginning, with passion, resilience, and continuous development.

One of them is Laurențiu Țerbea, R&D Software Leader: “For me, the beginning meant entering a new world, different from anything I had encountered before, attractive through the technologies I discovered, but also through the organizational culture. I have grown and evolved together with the company. In 20 years, my career was and still is a real journey, taking me through different roles, various responsibilities, and memorable experiences, each with its challenges. However, I believe that being a leader and the responsibility of “working with people” always remains a challenge but also what keeps me going”.
