Avis Romania’s anniversary month: The profile of our customers reflects the dynamics of the national economy, for over 30 years

Avis, a global provider of mobility solutions, has played a key role in the evolution of Romania’s car rental market, as one of the first operators to enter the Romanian market and contribute towards setting exceptional standards within the industry.

 

During its 30 years in the rent-a-car market, Avis Romania has witnessed continued transformation within the industry. The company opened its first office in Bucharest, inside the former Intercontinental Hotel, now known as the Grand Hotel, with only a few cars, where it still operates today.

Over the last three decades, Avis’s customer profile has reflected the dynamics of the national economy. Initially, rent-a-car services were mainly utilised by employees of foreign companies who visited Romania to carry out development projects. However, the company has since witnessed the emergence of new customer segments – namely foreign tourists and Romanians from the diaspora. The liberalisation of banking services and the increased accessibility of cards, which are necessary for car rental, have contributed to this notable shift.

Avis has embarked on an intense market education process, focussing on three sectors: local companies, Romanian tourists travelling abroad, and domestic customers. This strategy has been essential in expanding the car rental market in Romania. Avis is also constantly investing in modernising its fleet, offering a wide range of vehicles from well-known brands, and adapting to the needs and preferences of each customer.

The company has transitioned to more fuel-efficient engines, notably changing cars with a cylinder capacity of 4.5 litres to those with a 1 litre or 1.5 litre capacity for gasoline. Another significant aspect is the evolution of the equipment of the cars, which are more advanced and comfortable, compared to previous years. Currently, the majority of the cars in the Avis fleet are equipped with automatic transmission.

Alongside this, the company has quickly adapted to technological changes, integrating hybrid cars and the latest generation electric models into its fleet. This reflects Avis’s commitment to protecting the environment and its desire to offer customers the most advanced and efficient car rental options.

Avis’s goal for the current year is for all vehicles purchased to be as comfortable and efficient as possible and to ensure a seamless and enjoyable customer experience.
