On May 30 took place the Romanian launch event of the ONE SMART SPRAY technologythe new solution for the precise application of crop protection products, delivering maximum herbicide savings without compromising weed control.

The presentation and field trial of the ONE SMART SPRAY equipment took place at Sopema Farm in Mihail Kogalniceanu, Ialomita County. The event was attended by 100 Romanian farmers, who own farms with agricultural areas of over 1,000 hectares, together with BASF and Bosch specialists.

Romania is the fourth country in Europe, following France, Germany, and Hungary, chosen for the premiere introduction of this technology.

Presenting the smart spraying solution to Romanian farmers represents an important step in optimizing the use of crop protection products. We aim to meet the legal requirements and the goals of reducing pesticide use within the European Union, while at the same time increasing sustainable food production, in line with the ‘Farm to Forkstrategy. Digital and precision solutions are key tools for achieving this goals without compromising food safety,” says Mario Tomsic, Country Manager BASF Agricultural Solutions Romania.

ONE SMART SPRAY is a smart tool that uses camera systems and agronomic intelligence in order to apply crop protection products exclusively on weeds, and not on the entire field, in the minimum amount required. This technology contributes to a significant reduction in the use of crop protection productsup to 87%, depending on the degree of weed infestation, without production losses.

The automated weed detection (both green-on-brown and green-on-green), as well as the maximum precision spraying are both done in real-time. As the sprayer passes over a field, the system in milliseconds distinguishes crops from weeds and controls individual spray nozzles with pinpoint accuracy. This ensures herbicide is applied in the right dose and only where it is needed. In addition, with its connection to the xarvio FIELD MANAGER platform, the system also offers farmers actionable insights and digital tools such as customized agronomic recommendations, weed distribution and as-applied maps, automated sensitivity levels for each culture and easy-to-use documentation and automated data report.

What makes our system unique is the combination of superior precision, digital tools and the agronomic expertise. With a 24/7 application capability, we create exceptional green-on-green and green-on-brown performance. This type of precision agronomics offering is a breakthrough to support farmers with less impact and higher yields,” said Gabor Mehn, Customer Acquisition Manager ONE SMART SPRAY.

The ONE SMART SPRAY technology will be commercially available in Romania for corn, sunflower, sugar beet, rapeseed and soybean crops in the 2023/2024 commercial season. Moreover, the company has announced commercial agreements with agricultural equipment manufacturers AGCO – through Fendt brand – Dammann and CNH Industrial – through Case IH and New Holland Agriculture brandsfor the integration of ONE SMART SPRAY technology into their sprayer equipment lines, complementing the existing commercial contracts with Amazone and Stara.
