Mastering The Music Business, 5th edition: Transforming talent and music into a successful business

Between March 17 and 19, the fifth edition of the Mastering The Music Business (MMB) conference will transform Bucharest into the “kilometer 0” of the music industry. The Romanian capital becomes the place where artists of all musical genres will meet and will have the opportunity to share ideas with successful professionals from Romania and abroad.

This year, the day dedicated to workshops will be March 17th. The workshops will be held by well-known industry experts who will address topics in a more applied way. Among other things, participants will learn songwriting techniques, will better understand the law, will learn how to create multimedia content and amplify it, and will learn how to organize a festival through business games.

How to write memorable songs

When it comes to good songs, rhymes are not enough. Dan Byron, the lead singer and the man behind the lyrics of the Byron band, returns at the conference for the third year running, with the songwriting workshop. Dan will talk about the science of writing a song, about the controlled ways in which artists can write music and lyrics, about the available resources and the myths around songwriting.

A dream come true: financial education for artists

If artists would have to vote the most complicated part of their job, it would not be a surprise that everyone’s answer would be: budgets, the National Fraud Authority, and the ever-changing legislation. This is why one of the most expected workshops at Mastering The Music Business conference is the one dedicated to legislation and tax policies – Legislation and fiscal policy. Iulia Popovici, journalist, curator, and art critic, known for cultural expertise and diagnoses (including the tax regime of cultural workers) will explain the legal frameworks and will translate the legal jargon.

“Because it is not a creative domain, artists prefer not to think too much about the financial and legislative aspects of the music industry. But all this exists, whether they want it or not. Iulia’s workshop brings some light into the bohemian life of the artists and shows them that things are not as difficult as they seem, moreover, it will help them to become complete artists.” Says Anca Lupeș, founder of the Mastering The Music Business conference.

Games for artistic management and organizing festivals

If you work in the music industry, you certainly know that organizing a festival or managing an artist is not that simple, but it can become. Ekaterina Bazhanova, one of the most famous independent artistic managers in Russia, will hold two workshops at the MMB conference, dedicated to the two topics – The Artist Management Game and The Festival Game. These workshops are based on two games developed by Ekaterina, games that simulate real situations in the business and help the participants understand the principles and the decision-making process.

Content – the link between artist and the fans

Through the workshop – Boost Your Content! Multi-format content planning and creation for multi-platform activation, Andras Bodrogi, YouTube certified specialist and partner trainer at Google Ground Budapest, will help participants understand the importance of online communication, but especially the importance of video content as part of the promotion plan. Participants will learn how to plan and create content, how to multiply it in different formats and how to build a strategy that considers each artist’s time and money resources.
