Huawei has launched the most powerful smartphone in the world, at least for the time being: Mate 20. According to the phone maker, Mate 20 marks an important milestone in the history of the Mate Series, being a “breakthrough in innovation”. The price-tag of Mate 20 Pro, available for pre-order, is EUR 1,000.

The HUAWEI Mate 20 series is powered by the latest CPU – Kirin 980. Built on 7 nanometer architecture, it includes the powerful Cortex-A76 and the Mali-G76 GPU, which delivers improved performance and user experience. At the same time, the new 40 W HUAWEI SuperCharge charger, 15 W fast wireless charging function and large batteries work in tandem to give users the best battery life.

The Matrix Camera system includes the Leica Ultra Wide Angle lens and allows users not only to capture images with an enhanced view, but also take spectacular macro photos. The new Matrix Camera adopts a four-point avant-garde design that exudes personality, giving the device a unique, easy-to-recognize visual identity even remotely. The series provides users with the EMUI 9, based on the Android P operating system, which will allow users to enjoy all of the phone’s features, available only a few swipes away.

The series includes four models: HUAWEI Mate 20, HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro, HUAWEI Mate 20 X and PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate 20 RS. They are available in various versions with 6.39, 6.53 or 7.2 inches screens.

“Smartphones are an extremely important access to the digital world. The HUAWEI Mate 20 Series is designed to be the best partner of the users, giving them the ability to have the latest technology at their fingertips to ease their everyday activities through artificial intelligence, unparalleled battery and high-performance camera,” said Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer BG.

Ultimate performance

The processor built into smartphones plays a key role in their performance and efficiency. Based on the latest technology built on the 7 nanometer structure, the processor encompasses 6.9 billion transistors on an extremely small surface. Compared to Kirin 970, the company’s latest chipset brings incredible performance: CPU – 75 percent stronger, GPU – 46 percent more efficient, NPU – 226 percent more powerful.

Kirin 980 is the world’s first commercial chipset built based on Cortex-A76 cores. Huawei designed an innovative architecture on three levels: two ultra-large nuclei, two large cores and four small cores. This gives the processor the flexibility to distribute the optimal amount of resources depending on the complexity of the tasks. At the same time, this structure improves CPU performance and increases battery life. The Kirin 980 is the first processor to be equipped with Dual-NPU technology that gives it an enhanced processing capacity for artificial intelligence to support all the applications developed around this innovative technology in terms of performance.

HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro is the first smartphone in the world that can support 4.5G LTE Cat. 21 standard, which achieves download speeds of up to 1.4 Gbps. In addition, the phone facilitates the fastest wireless connections in the world that allow incredible download speeds. For example, a 2GB movie can be downloaded in just 10 seconds. Also, the GPS with Satellite Selection technology improves positioning accuracy in a wide range of scenarios.

HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro incorporates a 4,200 mAh battery, HUAWEI Wireless Quick Charge technology at 15W, the industry’s fastest wireless charging solution, and wireless reverse charge, allowing the device to function just like an external battery for other devices compatible.

The Matrix Camera

Based on the HUAWEI P20 camera system technology, the HUAWEI Mate 20 series camera has a Leica Ultra Wide Angle lens, capable of giving a wider perspective and giving a three-dimensional effect to the images. The new camera system also benefits from the macro function, which delivers sharp images of objects placed at a distance of approximately 2.5 cm from the lens. The ultra-wide lens and macro feature complete the Leica Triple Camera’s feature set, bringing it up to a dedicated photo device.

The HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro is equipped with a 40 MP camera, an Ultra Wide Angle 20 MP camera and an 8 MP camera. Together, the lenses adjust to a wide range of focal lengths, equivalent to a 16-270 mm zoom lens, capable of rendering images that compete with those of dedicated cameras.

At the same time, the HUAWEI Mate 20 series incorporates the innovative AI Portrait Color video feature. With the help of artificial intelligence, cameras can isolate the characters that appear in a clip and blur the colors around them for a dramatic highlight. In addition, AI Spotlight Reel identifies clips with a common theme and automatically generates a 10-second assembly.

The HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro comes with 3D Face Unlock, the function being able to recognize a user in less than 0.6 seconds and has an error rate of less than 1 / 1,000,000. Using the 3D Camera Depth Sensing system located at the front of the phone, it can accurately identify a person’s facial features, being able to recognize even minor details. In addition to user authentication, the sensor suite facilitates a series of new effects that can be applied to any portrait photo.

EMUI 9 facilitates user experience

The HUAWEI Mate 20 series works with EMUI 9.0, a smart interface based on the Android operating system P. Thanks to artificial intelligence incorporating self-learning algorithms, an integrated resource allocation system and an optimized Android system, EMUI 9.0 maintains high performance, even during long-term use of the phone.

EMUI 9.0 incorporates a minimalist design and intuitive menu. The new gesture navigation solution allows users to easily interact with their devices. Also, with artificial intelligence, the HUAWEI Mate 20 series devices can identify certain objects and, for example, can estimate and display the calorie count of certain preparations or products. Using 3D Live Object Modeling, users can create a digital avatar that can move and interact with them.

To support HUAWEI’s vision of an ecosystem in which all elements are easily interconnected, HUAWEI Share 3.0 brings a significant improvement. This new functionality allows consumers to quickly transfer files to smartphones and PCs. The innovative solution developed entirely by Huawei changes the way people transfer pictures and video clips, with only one touch needed to establish a connection between the phone and the PC.

Design

All devices incorporate a FullView screen with a very good screen / body ratio. Designed to make it as comfortable as possible for consumers, Mate phones can be used with one hand, no matter what their size.

The HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro was inspired by the elegance of natural elements. That’s why the phone is curved along all eight sides, offering a premium experience to anyone who touches it. For the PORSCHE DESIGN HUAWEI Mate 20 RS, Huawei and Porsche Design combine premium racing elements to create a device that is both ergonomic and refined.

The Matrix Camera, four-point symmetrically positioned inside a metal frame on the back of the phone, gives the HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro a unique and avant-garde look.

HUAWEI Mate 20 Pro is also available in the emerald green color, as precious as the stone that gives it its name. Hyper Optical texture on the back of the phone uses a complex pattern that produces an iris effect that is not only extremely durable but also fingerprint-resistant, making it extremely easy to use. The phone retains its appearance for a long time, regardless of its usage.

The HUAWEI Mate 20 series phones were launched globally in London. In Romania, Huawei Mate 20 Pro is already available for pre-order to authorized partners.
