Three Israeli tourists claim were taken out of a cab and beaten by Gendarmes during Friday’s Bucharest protests and plan to sue the Romanian gendarmerie. The incidents were filmed and posted on Facebook. The Israeli Embassy in Bucharest confirmed the incident and has issued a reaction.

The Israeli tourists claim they left their hotel in a cab and were heading to a local restaurant. Despite making clear they do not have any involvement in the anti-government protests taking place in the Romanian capital on Friday, they were dragged out of the cab and beaten, they argue.

According to the tourists, they showed gendarmes their passports, to prove they are foreign citizens. However, the gendarmes continue to hit them and put them to the ground.

The Embassy of Israel in Romania said: “Regarding the incident involving three Israeli tourists, on Friday, the Embassy of Israel communicates:

Considering the proof we have at this moment, it seems that innocent Israeli tourists were very close to the place where Friday’ violent incidents took place while they were traveling by cab from they hotel to a restaurant in Bucharest. They were stopped, pulled out of the car, and, despite the fact that they showed their foreign passports and explained they have nothing to do with the ongoing events, were beaten up by the law enforcement forces. We consider this incident as unacceptable and extremely serious. The Israeli tourists that suffered after the brutal intervention will file a complaint against the aggressors,” the statement said.
