Mega Image triples 2012 profit on store expansion

After opening 88 new stores in 2012, Mega Image has increased its profit 3.5 times to RON 46.7 million (EUR 10.5 million) in 2012 compared to the previous one, while its turnover was up by 44 percent to RON 1.75 billion (EUR 394 million), informs Mediafax. The retailer has also increased its number of employees by 33 percent to 5,693 people.

Mega Image has a network of some 233 stores under the Mega Image (supermarkets) and Shop&Go (proximity format) retail brands. Last year it adopted an aggressive expansion policy by focusing mostly on the smaller format Shop&Go stores and opening a total 88 new outlets. By comparison, the previous year it opened 33 new units.

Another 40 stores have been opened since the beginning of the year. The retailer is mostly present in Bucharest but also in Constanta, Ploiesti, Pitesti, Brasov, Targoviste and other cities.

Out of the 233 stores the retailer operates, 143 and supermarkets and the rest are proximity stores.
