Less women apply for managerial positions and at a later stage in their career than men, a survey by Adecco Romania shows. According to survey, women delay taking on leadership positions, but when they do apply for a position their CV and suitability for the job is superior of that of men who apply.

Overall, women apply for managerial positions after 40. For every woman who applies, three men for a position. The report did not survey the industrial sector and the field of HR and communication, where women and men represent the majority of the workforce.

“It is interesting that women study longer – a larger share of them have a masters’ diploma after finishing their academic studies and are more likely to apply for an MBA than men. However, they are slower to apply for and take on a leadership position within the company. Given that the labour market is becoming increasingly competitive, companies that provide conditions for women to grow, will win on the long term,” Elena Popa, Senior Consultant, Adecco Professional & Executive Search Division said.

According to the Adecco expert, women are increasingly attentive to professional opportunities provided by the employer, and the opportunity to get a higher position is one of them. The demand for candidates is growing, and a lot of employers have become increasingly flexible and aware of the fact that it is necessary to put extra efforts to keep the best candidates.

In Romania, 40 pct of leadership positions are occupied women

According to Eurostat, out of the approximately 7.3 million of leadership positions in the EU, only 35 percent are occupied by women. The wage gap for the same position, across Europe, stands at 23 percent. In Romania, however, 40 percent of leadership positions are occupied by women, and the wage gap is 5 percent.

Romania’s HR market could grow by 30 pct in 2018

According to the Adecco consultants, based on trends recorded in 2017 and signals received from the market this year, 2018 could be the most spectacular year for the HR market. In 2018, the recruitment market will increase by 25-30 percent due to investments announced by the foreign companies that will enter the Romanian market and the expansion of actors already on the market. The most popular sectors are set to the IT and support sector, followed by the financial sector and HR.
