France is the honorary guest country at this year’s edition of Bookfest, the Bucharest book fair set to take place at Romexpo from May 30th to June 3rd.

The French Embassy in Bucharest and the French Institute will welcome at the event, together with journalist Bernard Pivot, the producer and host of such shows as Apostrophes, Bouillon de culture, Double je, several well-known French writers. These are Dominique Fernandez, Michel Houellebecq, Nedim Gürsel, Sylvie Germain, Yasmina Khadra, and Yann Appery.

“I said yes to coming to Bookfest book fair because I kept two beautiful memories about this country: the one of a massive dictionaries delivery to schools after the fall of the communist regime, and the second one, the Double je show, where I had as Alex Leo Serban as a guest. This was in Iasi, in 2004,” explained Bernard Pivot.

At this year’s edition of Bookfest, the France will be represented with a variety of book titles, from the beaux livres literature to gastronomy, humanities and social sciences books. The France stand, hosted by the C3 pavilion, will be set up to offer viewers a real French cultural experience. A French coffee shop, a cinema, a space for children, and a debate space will also be set up to complete the French presence.

Bookfest is organized by the Romanian Publishers Association (AER). Previous guest countries of the fair have been Spain and Hungary. Romania will be the invited country at the Paris Book Fair in 2013.
