Over a third of the complaints received by the National Authority for Consumer Protection (ANPC) last year for price related irregularities concerned the large retail chains, said Constantin Cerbulescu yesterday at a Mediafax seminar. Overall, ANPC applied fines worth RON 8 million (approximately EUR 1.9 million) last year for such irregularities.

“The Romanian consumers know their rights. They have travelled abroad and learned about the situation outside the country and know they want the same rights here,” said Cerbulescu.

In over 7,000 of the cases analyzed by ANPC, sanctions were applied because of irregularities related to the shelf price such as the lack the of the price display, differences between the price displayed at the shelf and the price charged and false promotional sales.
