US chipmaker Qualcomm has accused Apple of sharing its technology with rival Intel in a bid to improve the performance of non-Qualcomm chips. The complaint, made in a Californian court, is the latest in an ongoing feud between the two firms.
Qualcomm has a tradition in supplying Apple with processors for its iPhones and other hardware. However, recently, the iPhone maker has shown a preference for such products made by rival Intel.
In its turn, Apple has accused Qualcomm of abusing its market dominance in microchips, blaming the company for charging too much for its technology.
In the recent court filing, the chipmaker accused Apple of supplying Intel staff with its confidential source code with the purpose to improve the performance of its chips. This was despite a contract between Qualcomm and Apple that was intended to restrict access to the technology offered by the San Diego-based chipmaker.
According to Qualcomm, the move was part of an “intricate plan” Apple implemented over several years. The purpose of the plan was to cut costs and increase its leverage over Qualcomm.
