Orange Romania recorded, in 2023, a turnover of EUR 1.551 billion, down 1.2% compared to previous year. In the fourth quarter, the Orange Romania Group achieved a consolidated turnover of 407 million euros, a moderate increase of 1.5% compared to Q4 2022. On December 31, 2023, the Group offered mobile services to 9.5 million customers, fixed broadband internet to 1.1 million customers, and cable and satellite television services to 1.1 million customers.

The end of the year was marked by the signing of the agreement between Orange and the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, which announced the intention to create a single fully converged telecommunications operator.

Orange network: solid 5G presence at the end of 2023

Efforts to expand the network continued last year, when more than 500 new localities in urban and rural areas received access to 4G and 4G+ connectivity. The 4G network covers 98.77% of the population, while the 4G+ network covers 82.58% of the population. 13 new cities benefited from the 5G/5G+ network in 2023, reaching a total of 38 cities with the fastest mobile speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps.

The quality of the Orange network was confirmed again, at the end of 2023, by the independent auditor LCC International. The measurements carried out in 40 cities and on the connecting roads between them showed that Orange Romania remains the best mobile network in terms of the performance of voice and data services.

Orange Business: IT&C revenues, steadily growing

In Orange Business, IT&C revenue in the last 12 months increased by 9% compared to the same period last year. The engines of growth were cyber security services, which continue to arouse interest for companies, smart city solutions and digitization projects of public administration and education. The fourth quarter of last year brought the importance of securing online environments to the fore, with the launch of Web Application Firewall (WAF), a new cybersecurity service for protecting applications exposed to the Internet, and a new Business Internet Security 2023 report.

This provides a detailed picture of the challenges in the field of cyber security in the context of technological revolutions such as generative AI, highlighting the 18% increase in the number of cyber attacks in 2023 compared to the previous year.

Digital Services: Over 60% increase in YOXO customer base

The ease of porting and opening a new number, done entirely from the app and from the comfort of your home, brought a more than 60% increase in YOXO’s customer base in 2023 vs. 2022 and an increase of over 100% in the number of new customers in Q4 2023 compared to Q4 2022.

With the customer experience in the digital environment in the foreground, at the end of 2023, Orange became the first telecommunications operator to offer customers a new way of delivering products purchased on orange.ro, through a wide network of lockers available in over 5,000 partner locations.

Social responsibility: Efforts to reduce the carbon footprint continued

In order to reduce the carbon footprint, in 2023 Orange signed the first Virtual Purchase Agreement (vPPA) contract in the local telecommunications market, it reached a total number of ~448,000 collected phones, through the “Re” program, which will re-enter in the circuit through refurbishing or recycling, and through dedicated offers, the number of refurbished phones sold increased by 8% compared to 2022. In addition, in Service Centers, Orange teams repaired over 50,000 phones throughout 2023.

At the same time, it also continued its philanthropic activity, with the Orange Foundation creating opportunities for a better future through digital education, with investments of approximately 2 million euros in 2023 in its programs. Over 2,000 participants completed Orange Digital Center courses in 2023, Digitaliada brought together over 40,000 students and teachers last year, and through SuperCoders over 500 children were trained in the use of programming languages.

“2023 was a year full of new challenges at the local level, in a complex economic context and tested by competitive pressures. We have focused our actions around strengthening the company’s performance, with a focus on maintaining network quality and improving the experience of our customers, marking important milestones in this regard. Today, Romanians have access to the fastest mobile internet, 5G, with speeds of up to 1.5 Gbps, present in 38 cities, and to affordable communications offers and services. We ended the year with the announcement of the signing of the agreement between Orange and the Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digitalization, which announced the intention to create a single fully converged telecommunications operator. Next, we will focus on network performance, customer interactions and presence in the digital area, where we want to provide the most attractive services. We will also continue our involvement in social projects and actions that reflect our concern for the environment. Through all these steps, we maintain our ambition to remain at the forefront of the industry and to bring long-term beneficial changes in all the communities in which we are present”, said Julien Ducarroz, CEO of Orange Romania.
