Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5: Positive Impact on the Planet

The new Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 represent another step in this commitment to designing technology that breaks barriers while simultaneously minimizing its impact on the environment.

A Broader Variety of Recycled Materials in More Components

Earlier this year, Samsung expanded its innovative use of recycled materials in product design with the Galaxy S23 series, introducing new materials into multiple components. Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 advance these efforts by incorporating a wider variety of recycled materials into more internal and external components compared to previous smartphones in the Galaxy Z series. The latest foldable smartphones include pre-consumer recycled aluminum and post-consumer recycled plastic sourced from discarded fishing nets, water barrels, and PET bottles. They also promote the use of Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus®, which contains an average of 22% pre-consumer recycled glass content.

Not only has Samsung incorporated more types of recycled materials into each device, but the company has more than doubled the number of device components that utilize at least 10% post-consumer recycled plastic or pre-consumer recycled glass, or an average of 22% pre-consumer recycled glass. Both Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 employ recycled materials in 15 device components, an increase from six internal components in the Galaxy Z Flip4 and Z Fold4.

When it comes to packaging, Samsung continues its efforts to progress in reducing the presence of single-use plastics. That’s why the paper used for the packaging box is made from 100% recycled material. The company has also switched to recycled paper material for protecting the screen and back cover.

An Extended Device Lifecycle

Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 further Samsung’s efforts to optimize the longevity and improve the upgradability of its smartphones. Each device comes with five years of security updates and four generations of operating system upgrades, contributing to an extended product lifecycle.

As a result, the Galaxy community can reliably enjoy their devices for a longer period, enabling them to make eco-conscious choices in their everyday lives.
