The sixth edition of the NexT International Film Festival, which brings to the forefront short films from Romania or productions showcased at Cannes, hits cinemas in Bucharest at end-March.

The films will be shown at the Scala and Studio cinemas in Bucharest between March 28 and April 1.

This year’s edition will comprise some sexually-themed films such as A Solas (Intimacy) directed by Francisco Javier Rubio Rodrigo, O Inferno by Carlos Conceiçaõ or Girl, directed by Fijona Jonuzi.

The NexT competition, a strong part of the festival, showcases 27 titles.

The competition shortlist also includes Romanian productions such as De azi inainte (From Now On) about a man who suspects his teenage son is gay and tries to find a remedy for this.

NexT was started in memory of Romanian director Cristian Nemescu and sound engineer Andrei Toncu, tragically killed in a car accident.
