Swedish furniture retailer IKEA has confirmed that it would open its second store in Bucharest, on Theodor Pallady boulevard, on June 24. It will be IKEA’s largest store in South-East Europe.
IKEA Pallady has a surface area of 37,000 sqm – 10,000 sqm larger than the Baneasa store. The investment in the new store has reached EUR 90 million and will have over 10,000 products on offer.
“After excellent progress in construction over the past few months, I am glad to announced that we will open the store on June 24 and bring our vision of a better day-to-day life closer to even more people in Romania. Besides the construction of our store, we’ve also completed the recruitment process, and our employees are ready to welcome our guests and clients at the opening,” said store manager Cas Lachaert.
The new store will employ about 600 people. So far, in 12 years of being on the market, IKEA has created over 1,000 jobs.
In the 2018 financial year, IKEA Romania reported sales of RON 609.3 million excluding VAT, a 10.6 percent growth compared to the previous year. The number of products sold exceeded 18.6 million, and the store had over 3.2 million visitors, while the online store was accessed by almost 18 unique users.
