Schneider Electric supplied the electrical distribution and smart building control solutions – EcoStruxure™ Building – for IKEA Timișoara. In this project, Schneider Electric collaborated with its partner, AGASI Timișoara, to establish a new standard of energy efficiency.

Even from the design phase, Schneider Electric implemented a series of solutions that optimize energy consumption, improve building performance and enhance the shopping experience for customers.

The integrated building management system – EcoStruxure™ Building – allows centralized control, monitoring, and management of all building systems. The solution optimizes energy usage, reduces operational costs, and enhances the comfort and safety of customers and store employees. Ten automation servers for heating, cooling, and ventilation systems monitor and control temperature, humidity, CO2 levels, and air quality in both public areas – the store and restaurant – and the storage area.

The PrismaSeT electrical distribution panels, equipped with high-power automatic circuit breakers (MasterPact MTZ), ensure a high level of reliability and circuit protection, providing real-time information about the electrical parameters of the installation to the store management and enabling remote control for maximum efficiency and safety.

“We have succeeded in bringing to IKEA Timișoara equipment and solutions that have proven their efficiency in recent years, where remote operation has become a necessity and operational continuity, in fluctuating business contexts and environments, has become an absolute priority,” says Monica Bucurescu, Sales Director Building Management System Schneider Electric Romania. “The same applies to energy efficiency. Large retail companies – and IKEA is an excellent example in this regard – have ambitious sustainability and operational efficiency goals, which they pursue tenaciously. Our products and solutions contribute to keeping utility costs at a reasonable level and creating this pleasant shopping environment.”

The sensors implemented in the Building Management System facilitate control of the exterior lighting in the parking area and interior lighting, with scheduled programming and light intensity sensors. The system can be programmed according to the store’s schedule and operating processes, ensuring energy efficiency and ease of operation.

As part of the same project, Schneider Electric integrated special heat pump and photovoltaic panel installations, as well as controlled air dispersion ducts, which ensure a comfortable atmosphere for customers, without drafts or noticeable temperature differences between different areas of the store.

Throughout the project, for over a year, the Schneider Electric team, along with its partners – from engineers to electricians, from switchboard builders to software programmers – ensured the implementation under the best conditions.

“This collaboration with Schneider Electric highlights that when we are involved from the initial phase of a construction project, we can contribute to achieving sustainability and energy efficiency goals, no matter how ambitious they may be,” says Adrian Smadu, Commercial Director AGASI Timișoara.

“We are pleased that IKEA Timișoara has now become a benchmark for the entire region in terms of sustainability. In addition to the ‘green’ objectives, our solutions offer key benefits for smooth operations by monitoring the systems in real-time and facilitating maintenance.”, underlines Monica Bucurescu, Sales Director Building Management System Schneider Electric Romania.

By implementing Schneider Electric’s solutions, IKEA Timișoara has reduced energy consumption, lower carbon emissions and the partnership highlights the commitment of the companies involved towards visible progress in energy efficiency and sustainability.
