The current business landscape is creating a highly competitive environment where performance indicators are no longer measured by financial filters alone. People, whether as consumers, employers, or simply members of society, have become increasingly informed and aware of companies’ impact on the environment. This is why they choose to work with and buy from companies that respect and embrace sustainability principles.

Thus, the companies that stand to gain in the long run are those that prioritise care for the environment and society, as investors, customers, and their employees demand that companies operate more responsibly and sustainably.

In this context, Genesis Property, the office building developer founded by Liviu Tudor, anticipated people’s needs and was the first local real estate company to join the prestigious community of global companies supporting the 10 Principles of the UN Global Compact. Moreover, in 2024, Genesis Property has also initiated the ESG performance reporting process towards the Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB). GRESB is the leading ESG benchmark for real estate and infrastructure investments worldwide, providing financial markets with standardised and validated data on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues.

In an industry known for its high environmental impact, Genesis Property’s ambition is to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040 – ten years earlier than the European Green Deal target. To this end, the YUNITY Park project features a 1,000-square-metre urban forest that contributes to absorbing over 5 tonnes of CO₂ annually. In addition, 1,080 photovoltaic panels have been installed on the approximately 4,000 sqm of roofs of the buildings in YUNITY Park, with an annual energy production of approximately 680 MWh/year, equivalent to 12% of the consumption needs of the entire office park.

In doing so, and with this rigorous assessment process (GRESB), Genesis Property demonstrates its commitment to sustainability by taking a transparent and proactive approach, setting a precedent for other companies in the Romanian property market. By prioritising social and environmental governance, Genesis Property not only improves its market position and enhances its reputation but also contributes with its robust ESG practices to a more sustainable and equitable future for the local real estate sector, creating modern, healthy, and sustainable workplaces for the future generations.
