Vodafone Romania expands mobile internet

Vodafone Romania has expanded its mobile data services to 15 new localities outside Bucharest. These services allow download speeds of up to 21.6 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 5.7 Mbps.

The mobile broadband internet services at HSPA+ speeds are available to the company’s customers as part of the package Internet Nelimitat Profesional, with an initial monthly traffic of 16 GB at a tariff of EUR 26.99 per month (with VAT).

Currently, the company offers coverage for mobile broadband services in areas where traffic demands are high, in 16 cities and resorts in Romania: Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Brasov, Iasi, Constanta, Ploiesti, Sibiu, Arad, Baia-Mare, Pitesti, Oradea, Targu-Mures, Satu Mare, Mamaia and Bran.

“Five years ago, we launched 3G services as a first on the local market. Over the next years, we continued investments in order to have the most modern and efficient network in Romania. (…) The expansion of coverage for broadband mobile internet services remains for us a priority in order to allow more and more clients to have access to innovating services and solutions,” said Liliana Solomon, CEO of Vodafone Romania.

Vodafone is the second largest operator on the Romanian market in terms of customers, after Orange. By December 31, 2009, its total number of clients was 9,663,000. Vodafone posted revenues in excess of EUR 1.1 billion for the year until March 31, 2009 and a 0.7 percent growth year on year.
