UPDATE: Romanian telecom operator RCS&RDS has lost the race for obtaining a telecommunication license in Hungary after the telecom authority in Hungary rejected its offer on the grounds that the operator has some unpaid debts.
RCS&RDS failed to pay some debts of its local subsidiaries which consisted in some commissions for the telecom authority.
RCS&RDS was bidding against other five companies to obtain the 900 MHz license. These are Telenor Hungary, the post company in Hungary, Vodafone Hungary, Magyar Telekom and Viettel Group from Vietnam.
RCS&RDS has been rejected alongside Vietnamese company Viettel, leaving four contenders in the race for the license.
RCS&RDS is already present on markets in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Serbia, Spain and Italy.
RCS&RDS is controlled by businessman Zoltan Teszari, who has had a very discreet presence in the media.
