Romanian employees that have higher wages and university level education tend to work overtime, according to an IRES survey that was commissioned by Up Romania, the company providing corporate benefits solutions.

The survey, which assessed the quality of life at the workplace, showed that 43 percent of Romanian employees stated that they work overtime, while 34 percent are working only during the hours included in the contract.

In addition, the study revealed that 62 percent of Romanian employees are satisfied or very satisfied with their current job, and more than half of them are optimistic about the outlook of their current position.

However, 42 percent of the respondents said that finding a new job could be hard or very hard.

“An employee that perceives his or her workplace as satisfying and fulfilling will be more involved and productive. On the other hand, great skepticism related to finding a new job shows that this optimism linked to the current job is a forced one, due to the perception that the labor market suffers from lack of opportunities,” said Elena Pap, the general manager of Up Romania, in a statement.

According to the IRES survey, 35 percent of employees regret their colleagues when they stop working for a firm.

In the wages segment, 44 percent of the surveyed employees said they salary was good and very good, while 26 percent said it was bad or very bad.

The benefits that are desired by employees include health insurance (88 percent), holiday bonuses (88 percent) meal tickets (79 percent) and gift tickets (77 percent).

Pap said that additional benefits such as cultural and services tickets would be received well on the local market.

The respondents gave the grade 7.5, when asked how they would assess the quality of their life at the work place.

The survey was carried out between April 1-8 and had a sample of 1,264 employees. The respondents work in companies with more than 10 employees.
