Rosia Montana is expecting you between August 12-14 for the sixth edition of FanFest, the greatest voluntary festival in Romania. For three days, you can enjoy the Apuseni Mountains view, find more about the 2000 years history of Rosia Montana and attend various events: open space concerts, theatre representations, home-made and traditional products fairs.

FanFest will provide guiding tours, allowing visitors to discover Rosia Montana and its surroundings. Landmarks include churches, Rosia Montana architectural site and the roman galleries. During the evening, participants can listen to local stories and legends about gold thieves and fights that were located in Rosia Montana during the 1848 Revolution.

The lounge area made of haystacks will have electronic music in the background. During the evenings, rock bands will take the Taul Brazi stage. Luna Amara and Sarmalele Reci together with other bands will rock the festival. The after-hours atmosphere of FanFest will be filled with eclectic sounds from numerous DJ’s. All artists’ performances are pro-bono.

Dramacum theater band has prepared a special performance of “Rosia Montana, on the physical and political line”, which was staged in 2010, at the Hungarian Theatre in Cluj. The soundtrack of the play will be provided by Bobo, member of Fara Zahar band. Screenings of social and ecology themed movies will be organized, in the three nights of the festival, in the Old Square of Rosia Montana.

The cultural patrimony of Rosia Montana together with possible capitalization methods will be debated by architects in study cases. Journalists will analyze the manner in which Rosia Montana was presented in Romanian and international news outlets, while the Group for Social Action (GAS) and members of the Save Rosia Montana Campaign will present the civil society role in policymaking.

“FanFest 2011 is the opportunity for novel cultural experiences – a place where the public can interact freely with artists and their different representation forms, creating a “museum without walls”. Visitors will realize what Rosia Montana has to be: a living cultural space, available to the public as part of the UNESCO universal patrimony”, said Luminita Dejeu, one of the organizers.
