Romanians turn to their TVs for Easter traditions, says study

TV remains the main source of information for Romanians looking to find out more about Easter traditions, according to a new study.

The survey carried out by Starcom MediaVest Group, in partnership with TNS Romania, has revealed that 34 percent of Romanians sit in front of their TVs seeking information about Easter traditions, while 23 percent turn to online sources.

The religious importance of the Easter rose very much among the population using internet in the big urban areas. The percentage of those who follow the traditions step by step this year is almost double compared to the one last year, while only 29 percent of the online users, over 18, had followed them ad literam.

Besides the religious activities, another center element of the traditions’ maintaining is represented by the preparation of the Easter meal: Romanians intent to give, in time, for the Easter meal around RON 542, the budget remaining at a constant level compared to the previous year, but also as a proportion to the monthly family budget.

Nationally, 63 percent of the Romanians will have an exclusive traditional Eastern meal, while 34 percent will add modern menus to the traditional one, which includes red eggs, sweets, homemade pastry, lamb meat, vegetables and fruits.

Over 62 percent of the Romanians consider that the Easter is an important religious celebration for which they need to prepare properly, with more than half of them respecting local traditions.

The second interest category for the Easter celebrations is represented by the gifts: 5 out of 10 Romanians intend to spend RON 300 or less on gifts, while 2 persons out of 10 still don’t have a clear budget set in mind.

The study had a sample of 1,045 people with the age between 18 – 64, representatives at a national level. The results have an error margin of +-3.1 percent at a trust level of 95 percent. It has targetted internet users that are living in cities with over 100,000 inhabitants.
