The Netflix’s Wednesday series, filmed in Romania, received 12 Emmy nominations at the 75th edition of the Emmy Awards, including five for Romanians: Art Director Adrian Curelea, Producer Carmen Pepelea, Costume Supervisor Adina Bucur, Oana Bardan for Special Visual Effects, and makeup artist Bianca Boeroiu for makeup.

“Wednesday” series brought five Romanians to the red carpet at the Emmy Awards, and three of the nominees also claimed the prize: Outstanding Production Design For A Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour Or More) – 2023, won by the team including Art Director Adrian Curelea, Outstanding Contemporary Costumes For A Series – 2023, won by the team where Adina Bucur was Costume Supervisor, and Outstanding Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic) – 2023, won by the team including the makeup artist Bianca Boeroiu.

For this awards, the Netflix series ‘Wednesday,’ whose first season was filmed in Romania, has won five awards: Contemporary Costumes for a Series, Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic), Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program (One Hour or More), Composition for a Series (Original Drama Score), and Original Main Title Theme Music.

“With the resumption of the cash rebate program, which became operational at the end of last year, we are confident that international production partners will regain confidence in the Romanian state, and large-scale projects, such as ‘Wednesday,’ will come or return to our country this year,” stated the Minister of Culture, Raluca Turcan, on a post on social media, after the nominations.

In the realm of Romanian cinema, Bianca Boeroiu stands out as one of the most esteemed makeup artists, having already been rewarded with multiple Gopo awards for her work. She was commissioned for renowned productions such as ‘Eu când vreau să fluier, fluier,’ ‘Loverboy,’ ‘Un pas în urma serafimilor,’ ‘Funeralii Fericite,’ and ‘Aferim’.
