Local goat dairy producer LaColline has announced plans to reach EUR 1 million sales this year. The company has managed to double its turnover every year since 2007 when it was founded by Romanian entrepreneur Ovidiu Spinu following an experience he had in France about 20 years ago.

“We are content with the company’s evolution so far. We managed to double the quantity of processed milk and  sales volumes on a yearly basis. Sales have followed the same trend. In 2011 we plan to reach EUR 1 million sales and to make a profit of at least EUR 20,000,” said the entrepreneur.

In the first year Spinu invested EUR 500,000 in this niche business. He says new investments will be made this year to buy equipment and increase the production capacity of its factory in Cluj as well as to invest in a nearby goat farm. Spinu also plans to set its own distribution fleet and to further diversify the LaColline product portfolio. Presently this includes various types of goat cheese, whole milk, yogurt and other specialties.

According to Spinu the demand for goat dairy is on the rise both internally and on foreign markets. Between 30 and 50 percent of the LaColline products are exported to neighboring Hungary and also to the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In Romania, the products are sold through horeca, specialized shops but also through large retailers like Auchan, Cora, Mega Image and Minimax.

The company says it has no competition locally on the goat dairy niche and compared to international producers, its prices are 50 percent cheaper.

If back in 2007 LaColline didn’t process more than 600 liters per day now it has increased its capacity to 3,000 liter. The goat milk comes from various farms in the Transylvania region.
