Romania is the country with the lowest degree of absorption of European funds, and this is a reality which cannot be denied but steps must be taken to improve it.
“The structural deficiencies must be corrected, starting from the relation with the beneficiaries and up to the speed at which their demands are processed. I am asking you to make sure that there is no suspicion of corruption in the case of people you work with,” said Ungureanu.
By February 10, Romania managed to absorb EUR 1.2 billion of structural and cohesion funds, which represents 6.3 percent of the total funds allocated to Romania, according to data presented by Leonard Orban, the minister of European Affairs.
The prime-minister warned that the 45-day-term set by the Government for processing reimbursement requests must be respected closely.
