Romania is considered to be the 42nd military power in the world, just after Colombia and Ethiopia, but ranks better than all its neighbors with the exception of Ukraine, according to Newsweek, which uses globalfirepower.com data.
Romania has 72,750 military personnel and its military strength relies on 134 military aircraft (out of which 31 attack aircraft and 68 helicopters), 827 combat tanks, 1,456 armored fighting vehicles, 413 units of towed artillery, 188 rocket projectors and 48 naval assets (including 3 frigates and 7 corvettes).
The world’s most powerful military forces are USA, Russia, China, India, France, United Kingdom, Japan, Turkey, Germany and Egypt.
Global Firepower uses an index in order to classify nations in terms of military strength. Romania has an index of 0.7473, far behind USA (0.0857) or Russia (0.0929), 0.00 being the highest-possible index for military strength.
In the region, apart from top 10-ranked Russia and Turkey, Ukraine is the only neighbor of Romania which scores better, being the 30th military power of the world. Hungary is ranked 63rd, Bulgaria 67th and Serbia 83rd, Global Firepower say.
