Romania among markets with top growth rates of the stock indices in Europe

The main index of the Romanian capital market, BET, reflecting the evolution of the 12 most liquid companies, reached to 8,300 points in April. BET index closed the trading session from the April 24 with the value of 8,296.75 points.

„Romania keeps posting top growth rates among European stock exchanges after the first four months. The growth rate of 16 percent of the Romanian market is double compared to Germany, France or to the average of the emerging markets included in the MSCI index,” said Ludwik Sobolewski, CEO of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB).

Conpet (COTE) and Nuclearelectrica (SNN) had the largest price share increase among the 12 companies included in BET, with 61.8 percent and 39 percent. The BVB shares went up by almost 10 percent between January and April.

The average daily trading value was 17 percent higher compared to the January-April 2016 period. The most traded five companies by value on the main market in the first four months of this year were: Banca Transilvania (RON 534.5 million), Fondul Proprietatea (RON 382.3 million), Romgaz (RON 260.5 million), OMV Petrom (RON 234.1 million) and BRD – Groupe Societe Generale (RON 231.2 million).

„The Romanian companies earned over RON 10 billion (almost EUR 2.4 billion) in the first four months of 2017. In addition, we are talking about some of the highest values in the last 20 months as far as their capitalization is concerned,” said Lucian Anghel, president of the board of governors of BVB.

The market value of the Romanian companies listed on BVB increased from month to month this year so that the highest value of 2017 was reached in April. The capitalization of the Romanian companies reached a peak of EUR 19.44 billion on the April 13, the highest value in the last 20 months. A similar level was recorded on August 7, 2015.
