Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 2.5 percent in August 2011 according to a flash estimate issued by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In July, the indicator reached 2.5 percent.

Economic growth in the second quarter of 2011 has slowed down more abruptly than analysts have previously forecast. In this context, the European Central Bank (BCE) will present next week a revised inflation target.

In June, the bank had said that it expects a 2.6 percent annual inflation this year, which should fall to 1.7 percent in 2012, while economic growth is projected at 1.9 percent this year and 1.7 percent in 2012.
