Outsourcing tipped to be key IT trend in 2010

Between 2007 and 2009 local small, medium and large companies started to test the water and consider IT outsourcing as a real option; some even adopted certain forms of outsourcing, according to Marius Militaru, marketing and sales manager at IT Assist.

This year, companies will see outsourcing more as a necessity. “As we move forward into 2010, a lot of people consider outsourcing to be the most important direction pursued by companies that need IT to run their activity. In this difficult economic year, all companies are opting for operational efficiency in all departments, including in IT,” he said.

IT Assist data show one of the developing directions of outsourcing will be cloud computing, based on the principle of using instruments and applications outside the company which are in the property of third parties.

Secondly, Romanian companies will start using Software as a Service more and more.

Hardware as a Service (HaaS) is a concept that is still in its beginnings in Romania and until now has been used mainly by very large companies with contracts of millions of euro.

HaaS can refer to renting the usual equipment, such as computers and servers, up to contracts for the lease, management and maintenance of infrastructure.

Managed Services Provider (MSP) will replace the traditional service of suppliers of IT products. In recent years, companies went to traditional equipment resellers in the hope they would receive IT maintenance services for IT infrastructure.

The MSP work model offers companies the opportunity to focus on their core business and leave specialized suppliers in charge of IT support functions.

Outsourcing demand focusing on IT technologies will develop. In order to boost their business, local companies will increasingly resort to advanced technologies which require specialized resources or increased competencies that cannot be supported with internal resources. IT Assist foresees a surge in demand for IT outsourcing solutions for server virtualization, professional back-up solutions and data security management.
