Orange launched today in Bucharest the highest-speed mobile internet in Romania, that can reach download speeds of 43.2 Mbps.

The service is available via the company’s 3G network, allowing 43.2 Mbps download speeds and 5.76 Mbps upload speeds.

“This is the highest speed that can be obtained from a 3G network,” said Jean-Francois Fallacher, CEO of Orange Romania.

For now, the service can only be used in Bucharest, but other cities such as Cluj or Timisoara will follow suit in several months, according to Jean-Francois Fallacher, CEO of Orange Romania.

The company’s investment budget this year is EUR 110 million.

In order to have access to the highest speed mobile internet, Orange clients need to be in the 43.2 Mbps coverage range and use a compatible modem.

The new service is available via two subscriptions- Colibri 15 and Colibri 25.

These include also the Cost Control option so that clients do not pay anything in excess of their monthly subscription.

The Orange CEO also spoke about Orange’s approach regarding the 4G. “It is clear that the next stop in the mobile business is the LTE. A lot of very important investments must be made. It is hard to say whether it will be this year or next year, but for sure we will go in this direction. This is in the hands of ANCOM and the government. There is a tender planned next year so we will see in what conditions we can have access,” said Fallacher.
