Nordic Petfood Production, part of Nordic Group, reported a turnover of close to RON 60 million last year in Romania. During 2010-2017, the company invested around EUR 3 million in the upgrade and retechnologization of its production and packaging capacity and created new warehouses.

Currently, the production line is completely automatized and the dry food is obtained through the extrusion technology. The raw food is transformed in a finished good through a thermal process of cooking.

“According to our estimations, the food market for dogs and cats from Romania represents around 150,000 tonnes, approximately 20,000 tonnes represent the food for cats. In value terms, the dry food reached over RON 700 million. Around 56 percent of the total market is on the sales channel of the big retailers out of which half represent private brands. Around 41 percent of the total volume of the market is sold through the traditional stores. We estimate that our portfolio reached approximately 25 percent of the volume and 16 percent of the total value of dry food market for dogs and cats,” said Iulia Stana, managing partner of  Nordic Petfood Production.

The factory from Buftea has a storage space of over 1,500 sqm. The delivery capacity of the factory is around 300 tonnes/day. With four lines of automatized lines, they can be packages from 300 g to 20 kg.

Nordic Food Production owns a portfolio of over 370 suppliers. In 2016, approximately 78 percent of the raw food was acquired from the internal market.

The company works with 12 international retailers present in Romania and in 800 locations from the traditional specialized trade.
