New internet service brings UPC increase in customer base in Q1

UPC has added 1,200 new internet customers in the first quarter of this year compared to Q3 of 2010, thus bringing the total to 256,000 subscribers. The company hopes to boost its results on this segment after the recent introduction of its high-speed internet service of 120 Mbps. ”UPC offers its subscribers the highest available speed cable internet service: up to 120 Mbps. We expect for the future to see an sustained increase on this segment,” said Severina Pascu, executive director of UPC Romania.

 

Digital television brought UPC an 11 percent increase in its customer base in the first quarter of this year compared to the last quarter of 2010. Digital cable TV grew by over 7 percent to a total of 304,000 current subscribers, 20,600 more than in the third quarter of the previous year. DTH TV brought 9,000 new subscribers in the first quarter of this year, bringing the total in this segment to 235,000.

On the landline telephony segment, UPC reported a 3 percent increase in its customer base to almost 145,000 customers currently using the company’s telephony services.

At the end of March 2011, UPC had 1.13 million cable subscribers, 256,200 internet subscribers and 144,800 telephony subscribers. At the end of March 2010, the company had 1.21 million cable subscribers in Romania, 271,400 internet subscribers and 153,100 telephony subscribers.
