Constructors of the Bucharest-Ploiesti highway will have to pay penalties for delays in completing the project and the money received by the state from applying fines will be given to the Ministry of Health, said PM Victor Ponta, according to Agerpres.

“Today we should have been able to drive on this highway (…). I want to take the money of those responsible. Up to this moment penalties amount to RON 15 million (approximately EUR 3.4 million) and we know what to do with the money. It will all be given to those who find themselves in desperate situations, those suffering from incurable diseases who have sent us a desperate call for help. However, I want this highway to be completed and not just cash-in penalties,” said Ponta.

He added that next week he will ask the PM’s control body to investigate other infrastructure projects that have completions delays.

The Bucharest–Ploiesti highway should have been opened for traffic this weekend, but the event was once again delayed, this time for August 1, due to flaws in construction which threaten traffic safety, announced the minister of transports Ovidiu Silaghi.
