The combined turnover of Metro Group divisions in Romania in 2009 stood at EUR 1.8 billion, with EUR 1.2 billion posted by Metro Cash & Carry and EUR 671 million reported by real,-Hypermarket division. Overall, this is a 10.7 percent decrease compared to the previous year’s results in EUR, and is due to the depreciation of the national currency against the EUR and lower consumption as a result of the economic crisis.

The 17.5 percent drop on the cash & carry segment was counterbalanced by a 5.2 percent increase on the hypermarkets segment, which was due to a growth in the number of stores.

Metro Cash & Carry operates 24 stores in Romania and employs 5,639 people, compared to 6,390 in 2008. Metro Group also runs Real hypermarkets in Romania, another 24 units across the country.
