Delhaize Group, with its Mega Image brand, will take over the tree G’market stores in Bucharest. The stores are located in Plaza Romania, Bucuresti Mall and Colentina, having a combined surface of selling area of 6,436 sqm.  The deal is currently pending the Competition Council approval. Until the transaction is concluded, G’market will continue its operations in Bucharest as up to now.

Gimrom Holding opened in 1999 the first Gima  store in Bucuresti Mall and now conducts its retail business through four stores: three in Bucharest and one in Iasi. The G’market stores had a RON 70 million turnover in 2010.

“This deal matches perfectly with the strategy of Mega Image to extend our activity in Romania and in Bucharest . After approval of the transaction by the Competition Council, the three stores will be remodeled under Mega Image concept, focused on Food expertise,” said Xavier Piesvaux, general manager of Mega Image.

Founded in 1995, Mega Image is one of the largest retail chains in Romania, with a network of 94 supermarkets in Bucharest, Constanta, Ploiesti, Pitesti, Brasov and other cities.
