Main BVB index continues downfall in May 2016

BET, the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) main index, continued to fall in May (down 1.36 percent), though slowing down after recording the highest drop among regional markets in April (down 4.3 percent).

This month the Poland Stock Exchange registered the largest fall (4.81 percent), followed by Austria (2.68 percent). The Czech Republic (down 1.71 percent), Romania and Hungary (down 1.29 percent) saw lower drops in their main indexes, while Bulgaria (almost stationary at 0.01 percent) and Croatia (up 1.29 percent) were the only ones to enjoy increases.

The BET Total Return index, which measures the evolution of ten most liquid stocks listed on BVB, saw a slight improvement by 2.2 percent.

In May the total value of transactions with shares reached RON 664.2 million (EUR 147.3 million), up by almost half over May 2015, while during the first five months the turnover in shares reached RON 3.5 billion (up 8 percent y-o-y.)

Average daily equity trading value was RON 31.63 million (EUR 7 million), a solid drop from the RON 54.08 million registered in April, but 40 percent more than the level recorded in the same period of 2015.

The average daily equity trading on BVB stood at RON 33.2 million (EUR 7.40 million) over the first five months, 5 percent higher than in same period of the last year.

In May, 2016, investors had traded fund units, bonds and structured products in total stock worth over RON 769.8 million (EUR 171.1 million).

The market capitalization of all companies listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange was RON 125.9 billion (EUR 27.9 billion). Of this amount, the market capitalization of Romanian companies was RON 65.9 billion (EUR 14.6 billion), both values being lower than the ones registered in April.

In May, the most traded five shares were: Banca Transilvania, Fondul Proprietatea, Romgaz, Electrica and BRD, with a total value of more than RON 540 million.
