Romanian pharmaceutical producer LaborMed Pharma expects to sell EUR 4 million worth of herbal products in 2010, having recently launched the Ozone Natural division, which is in charge of phytotherapeutic products, the company has announced.

The newly launched Imunogrip and Imunorezistan brands are expected to generate 40 percent of this new division’s sales, according to LaborMed Pharma.

This market segment was estimated at EUR 117 million in 2009, up 8 percent on the previous year, according to a Visionwise Daedalus Millward Brown study. Herbal products make up half of the Over the Counter (OTC) products in Romania, while two out of ten Romanians use OTCs, which don’t require a medical prescription.

LaborMed Pharma was acquired by investment fund Advent International in 2008.

The pharmaceutical company bought 400 products from the portfolio of pharma producer Ozone in 2009, while last year it took over herbal producer PlantExtrakt from Cluj. Following this acquisition, LaborMed posted EUR 35 million in sales, double the figure from 2008.
